Jiva Public
School
Is it possible to offer extremely high-quality education to children
of modest backgrounds? The founders of Jiva believe so. In 1994, we
set out to demonstrate how through holding high educational
standards and employing effective management strategies, a school
could provide facilities and instruction to such Indian learners
that were on par with the best schools in India, and even throughout
the world.

The Jiva Public School (a K-12
institution) was established in 1994 in a small residential building
with only 8 students and 3 teachers on the first day. But today it
operates from a large building on 1.5 acres with over 800 students
and 45 teachers. It is located in a quiet alcove of Faridabad
District, 15km from New Delhi, and just 2km from the lush environs
of the Aravalli hills.
Over the years, Jiva Public School has evolved around the
constructivist concept of education—that learning is an active
process of building knowledge through personal experience.
Everything about the school and the process of learning is based on
this principle. And all stakeholders involved in the learning
community are encouraged to be creative problem-solvers—the
students, parents teachers, administration, and support staff.
It was the first school in India to have an Internet connection and
to use the computer as a tool to teach other subjects. And companies
such as Apple, Intel, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, and Schlumberger,
have actively supported the school because of its innovative use of
technology.
Every aspect of Jiva Public School has been designed to enhance
learning from the use of innovative activities, to the study
materials—even the furniture. The result is that a culture of
creativity has been fostered. It is a fact that Indian society
places an inordinate amount of pressure on students to excel in
examinations often at the expense of aspects of learners'
development. However, Jiva has managed to strike a balance that has
proven that it is possible for learners to score well on board
examinations, while also developing a diverse set of skills.
At Jiva, your child is at the center of all learning activity and
has access to resources through which skills are easy to learn,
communication is set up, and opinions and ideas are shared. The
focus is on learning, not on teaching. It is the teacher’s duty to
ensure that learning takes place in an atmosphere that is conducive
to learning -- one which is friendly, non- threatening, full of
activities and provides opportunities for interaction and
self-expression.
